Book Blitz: Child of the Sacred Earth by Alicia Michaels

These are dark times in the land of Fallada, and I fear that they will only continue to grow darker. Only the return of those we’ve lost will even the score.
It will begin with first line of the prophecy, which foretells of a red sun over the desert sky…
~Adrah, Queen of the Fae

So began Daughter of the Red Dawn, Book 1 of Alicia Michaels' The Lost Kingdom of Fallada series. The saga continues with the newly released Child of the Sacred Earth.

Get a degree, get a job, save adorable foster siblings from the clutches of the evil foster mom …
These are Jocylene Sanders’ top priorities as she enters her sophomore year of college. The last thing she expects is to find herself the champion of an entire kingdom. However, that is just what happens when the mysterious Faerie, Rothatin Longspear, appears to her, tasking her with saving a parallel world full of creatures from her wildest dreams.

Jocylene journeys with him into the world of Fallada, hoping for answers about her birth parents and background. What she finds is a mystifying past, and an even more uncertain future, as her heart becomes entangled with the stoic, battle-hardened Rothatin, as well as Eli, the untroubled Panther Shifter with no loyalties and no home. With her heart and soul pulled in so many directions, can Jocylene find the strength needed to become the savior one nation so desperately needs?

Interview: Rhonda Dennis author of The Green Bayou Series

rhonda

Interview

Today Rhonda Dennis, author of the Green Bayou Series joins me for an interview. I would like to thank Rhonda for her time, I know it’s hectic for authors to run day to day life's and keep up with their author duties and so I appreciate her time to answer a few questions about her and her series.

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I always loved writing, but it was more of a hobby. I really thought I’d become a nurse. It didn’t happen, but I did spend some time working as a medic.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

I’ve written five books and three novellas, yet I still find it hard to call myself a “writer” or “author”. I’m not sure when it’s gonna finally sink in!

How long did it take to get your first book published?

I chose to self-publish my novels.

Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

Nope. I write full-time.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

The latest book I published is called, “Deceived: A Green Bayou Novel Book Five” and if I had to describe it in less than twenty words—Another intense, thrilling, mysterious, and romantic glimpse into the life of Emily and the Green Bayou gang!”

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

Self-publish

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

Though I suppose I could do it faster if I worked straight through, it usually takes me about six months from start to finish to write a novel.

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

I plan to do more books in the same genre in the future, but I’d also like to branch out a bit. I’m looking forward to diving into several projects I have in the works.

What genre would you place your books into?

Romantic suspense

What made you decide to write that genre of book?

It started out as a short story that I was simply writing for fun. The story kept spilling out and over a weekend, I basically had a novel.

Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?

I love them all. It’s really hard to pick just one, but if I were forced to do so, I’d say that Connie Hebert is my favorite.

How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?

I’ve been writing professionally for two years now. I was inspired by a college professor who made a note on one of my final assignments that I should consider pursuing a career as a writer. It wasn’t really something I considered before then.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

I love listening to 80’s and 90’s music when I write. I also like to make sure that the music matches the mood of the scene I’m writing.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

I try to. Reviews mean a lot to me because someone took time out of their busy day to comment on my books. They certainly didn’t have to do that, so the least I can do it read it! The bad ones hurt, but I realize that not everyone has the same taste or preferences when it comes to reading material. I try my best to simply let those go.

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

I generally write the book and then choose the title.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

I want my character names to be authentic to South Louisiana so I use the phone book a lot!

Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?

The names are decided after they come into the story.

Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

I like to develop a character’s personality as I go along. I’ll set some vague characteristics, but I let the character guide me as the story moves along.

Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")

There are probably quite a few messages/morals they could take away from my stories, but to say that I intentionally put them in the story would be untrue.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

Most of the time I prefer eBook, however, I do love holding a paperback every now and then.

What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?

My favorite book is “A Confederacy of Dunces” by John Kennedy Toole. The way he brought the story and the characters full circle was pure genius. Also, how the main character, Ignatius Reilly, can be so intelligent, yet such a buffoon makes me laugh every time! I read it at least once a year.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

I think that it can be done, but it’s pretty rare. My favorite book to movie transfer would probably be “The Help” and my least favorite would probably be “One For the Money” by Janet Evanovich.

Your favorite food is?

Anything seafood

Your favorite singer/group is?

It changes daily!

Your favorite color is?

Blue

Your favorite Author is?

I love so many, but my favorite would be John Kennedy Toole.

Gathered within museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel…

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn’t really exist.

Being raised in both the Northeast corner of Vermont and one of the larger cities in Massachusetts has given Dawn, a divorced mother of three, the unique ability to mix the spookiness of a small town ghost story with the fast pace action of city life. Island Pond, Vermont was every child's wonderland, with looming mountains and small towns nestled in the valleys, its simple lifestyle gave Ms. Gray the ability to let her imagination run wild, thus creating her unique style of writing, where the stories speak for themselves. Big city living, in her teenage years to the present allowed her to harvest that energy and creativeness to bring to life some of the most unique characters, such as Michael Raven and Julian Deveraux. Although Vampires are her most used basis for characters and settings, Ms. Gray's novels also venture into those of other supernatural realms, with ghosts, witchcraft and werewolves coming into play in several of her upcoming manuscripts. -

When eighteen-year-old Keiko Yamada’s father dies unexpectedly, he leaves behind a one way ticket to Japan, an unintelligible death poem about powerful Japanese spirits and their gigantic, beast-like Guardians, and the cryptic words: “Go to Japan in my place. Alone and afraid, Keiko travels to Tokyo, determined to fulfill her father’s dying wish. There, beneath glittering neon signs, her father’s death poem comes to life. Ancient spirits spring from the shadows. Chaos envelops the city, and as Keiko flees its burning streets, her guide, the beautiful Yui Akiko, makes a stunning confession--that she, Yui, is one of a handful of spirits left behind to defend the world against the most powerful among them: a once noble spirit now insane.
The Earth itself is at stake, and as Keiko fights to save it, strange, dormant abilities stir within her. She suspects they are vital to her world’s survival, but to summon them, she must first unlock the mysteries within herself and a past shrouded in mystery.

About The Author:
I am a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity. I love all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky. I've been told I see the world through rose-colored glasses, but I prefer to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into something I can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).
I am the author of the DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA trilogy, which includes FORSAKEN, AWAKEN, and CHOSEN (Winter 2012). I love all books, but really enjoy writing young adult, paranormal romances. I've loved to write for as long as I can remember. My first published work was my poem RED in second grade (you guessed it - it was a poem about the color red - life altering, I know) that won me 5 gold stars and a spot in my elementary school's poetry book. That's when my addiction to the written word officially began. I was the only kid in fifth grade that actually enjoyed diagramming sentences. Go ahead and laugh – it’s okay.
When I'm not writing I'm making jewelry, painting, drinking sweet tea, watching the discovery channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with my amazing husband. I graduated from Appalachian State University and dream of becoming a full time novelist.

Stella gets in some trouble with the law and her mom charts her off to a tiny island called Nortica. From her very first step on the island, everything is really weird. Weird foster kids, weird island air, and weird mom. And that’s just the beginning for Stella. Soon, her whole life is turned upside down as she has to unravel the mystery surrounding the island of Nortica.

Finally we have some merfolk to read about! Stella was a great character with an awesome personality. The things she says will crack you up. She is feisty and doesn’t take crap which is perfect. She puts on a brave face and steps into the world of merfolk and takes on the quest to save her mom. And wow the end was one hell of a plot flip, and I was so not expecting it to go that way. Awesome! Draven was the perfect hero and I can’t wait to see what happens next between him and Stella. Well-deserved 5 Stars!

Bio

Amy Richie has lived in a small town her entire life. She lives with her three kids and their pet rat Jasper. She began writing in high school but never took it seriously until a few years ago. She enjoys writing because it takes her out of her everyday life and gives life to the people in her head. Amy says: “When I was little I wanted to be a mermaid, then when I was in high school I wanted to be a vampire; now as an adult I’m a writer, which is better because now I get to

be both.”
