Today I interview fellow author Christy Sloat on her
Crimson Key blog tour. Let’s find out a little more about her…
Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what
did you want to be?
Yes I did. I didn’t know how to go about it so I went to Dental Assisting
school. I did that for 12
years until I broke into writing. I don’t want to do anything else.
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
When The Crimson Key hit the bestsellers list. I think it was final.
How long did it take to get your first book
published?
It took about a year. It was pretty fast in my opinion.
Do you do another job except for writing and can
you tell us more about it?
I stay at home with my 3 and 7 year old. It’s the hardest job I have
ever had!! No days off or
sick days. But it’s the best job because I see them grow up.
What is the name of your latest book, and if you
had to summarize it in less than 20 words what
would you say?
The Crimson Key- Brylee Branson, a teen medium, has the task of
finding a cure for her
boyfriend and best friend who are cursed.
Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?
Anchor Group Publishing
How long does it usually take you to write a book,
from the original idea to finishing writing it?
About 3-4 months. But editing is about an additional month.
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a
different genre?
There will be more books in The Visitor’s Series. I am not sure how
many books in total.
Brylee will not be done fighting ghosts just yet. I also will have a short
story on Kayla, one of
the characters in The Crimson Key.
What genre would you place your books into?
Paranormal/Suspense
What made you decide to write that genre of book?
I love Paranormal. Everything about it appeals to me. So it makes
sense to write what you
love!
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Yes I do. Even the bad ones. I don’t look at them and get hurt
anymore. Sometimes they teach
me things.
Do you choose a title first, or write the book
then choose the title?
I have a title and a book cover in my head before each book is even
done. I know its weird but
it is very important for me to have the cover.
How do you come up with characters names and place
names in your books?
Brylee rhymes with my oldest daughters name. So I had to use it. And
as far as the place, the
Brown House is a house my husband grew up in. The things that happen
in the book have
happened to people who lived in that house. Not all things but some.
Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet,
tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or
as you go along?
I decide all those things before. I write it in a journal beforehand
so I can remember
everything. I can’t keep track of all my characters.
I would like to thank Christy for taking
the time to do the interview.

The truth can be deadly.
Brylee Branson’s best friend and boyfriend have fallen victim to a
horrible curse that haunts her home. With the witches who cast it dead she has
no choice but to rely on the ghosts inside the Brown house to help her find a
cure. But time is not on her side, because Lynley's illness is spreading
rapidly.
Confused and scared, seventeen-year-old Brylee must confront a new ghost
in the house she has never spoken to before. This spirit is not a Brown
relative and makes no promises to help them … unless she can re-unite her with
a loved one.
The fate of those she loves now rests on her. Can Brylee put the pieces
of this puzzle together in time to save them? Or will the Brown house claim
another victim?
The Visitor’s Series continues to scare and entice its readers with this
gripping second book.
